Daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Ken U. Fong

Janessa's mom and dad live in Southern California.  Her father, Dr. Ken Fong has recently published a ground breaking book on Christian ministry in Asian American communities.  Pursuing the Pearl (Judson Press, 1999) has already enjoyed a wide reading.  I was touched by the book's dedication - 

To Janessa Akemi Fong

You were born the same year that this book was born.  This book, my life, my ministry are all dedicated to your future and to those generations that will come after you long after I am gone from this earth.  You are God's gracious gift to your mommy and daddy.  As you grow up, may you, too, pursue Jesus and his precious pearl. 

Dr. Fong is just about finished with his second book.

Due out in the Spring of 2001 is the yet untitled and unabridged telling of the story of how Ken and Sharon Fong kept their hopes alive through four hard years of searching for a child to adopt.  Published by InterVarsity Press, it will also be a retelling of the story of God's love in search of his lost children.  It promises not only to be a moving tribute to the power of enduring faith in the face of crushing disappointments but an accessible way to share the story of salvation through the eyes of adoptive parents.

You'll be hearing more from Ken.  He's been a favorite at Promise Keeper events.  And at the end of this year, he will be Keynote Bible Teacher in the General Assembly when 20,000 collegians gather at the University of Illinois for the Tri-Annual Urbana Conference.
