A
Final Word
Here are thoughts from Ken shared at the closing of the dedication ceremony
Don Williamson asked that I do two things tonight first, on this evening of dedication, bring a word from the family. Second, he asked that I bring a final prayer a benediction.
I am pleased and honored to do both.
To Oscar and Dora Mae, at the risk of sounding slightly carnal, on behalf of the entire family I want to begin by saying you have made us all very proud of the good name Hunerdosse.
To the Board of Directors of Crescent Lake Bible Camp, to the first rate professional and volunteer staff and to all those who labored to make this evening an event we will all remember and cherish for the rest of our lives thank you.
The story of the Hunerdosse Center will be told and retold to our children and their children for generations to come.
Mom and Dad, tonight your hearts are all filled up with joy and memories and gratitude. I know that you feel unworthy - and that I must say is one of your most endearing qualities.
Dad, your thoughts must go back to the early days of your childhood on that Iowa farm when a Godly mother dragged you along to a Presbyterian Church. There you began to learn about the living God who created all things and about the treasure we possess between the leather-bound covers of this timeless Book. For you back then, it was a Schofield Reference King James Version of the Bible.
Your mother could tell the fourth of six boys you were the one with verbal skill. You were a communicator. "You oughta be a preacher," she would say. And you began to believe that she just might be right. Your dad thought so, too.
Later in Chicago, you met Dora Mae Stuve. You were hopelessly stricken.
When you told the preacher back home about your marriage plans, you were speaking to a former professional wrestler. He was a big, strong muscular man who could draw a crowd. He had a commanding presence, a powerful voice and a gentle spirit. He was married to an amazing lady.
He became your mentor in ministry. He believed in you. He and his wife
set the pace. It was an ambitious, exhausting pace. The four of you poured your lives into
the Crescent Lake Bible Camp and along with countless others brought it to this
place in history as sacred ground.
Don (Williamson) and Marilyn (Collins), I know you agree. Ray and Alice (Williamson) would love to be here tonight. Its safe to say, they are not only aware of our little gathering here in the Northwoods they cherished they are "high fivin" each other in Heaven even as we speak.
This magnificent building stands as a symbol of all the amazing things God has done here since 1933. Mom and Dad, you remember the countless car-loads of kids, the work weekends, the ground-breakings, the hundreds, no, thousands of meals served from the old dining hall. You remember the commitments made, the lives forever changed, the Bible taught (as you taught this weekend thank you Carl (Zwart)), the numberless board meetings, times you all prayed from various places on these grounds when you asked God to pour out His blessing on this beautiful piece of real estate on the waterfront and He did. The memories are good.
This building is also a promise to this and future generations that Gods people still give, still serve, still pray. There is still a place to be introduced to Him, to worship Him, to grow in Him. It is a place of retreat for our family, our children, our neighbors, our friends a place for us all.
Oscar and Dora Mae know this: Mom you are a loved woman. Dad you are a loved man. In ways that few people ever know, tonight, you are wealthy beyond measure.
To our great Hunerdosse family understand that the pride and the joy we feel tonight is rooted in the cumulative effect of a lifetime of faithful service to Christ Jesus our Lord.
Let us all commit together this very night to follow this example and do the same.
And now, finally, lets stand together, and be dismissed in prayer.
Hebrews 13:20,21"May the God of peace who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen."
